Dr. Carl S. Blyth is an associate professor of French linguistics and director of the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning (COERLL) at the University of Texas at Austin. COERLL is a national foreign language resource center funded by the US Department of Education. A proponent of open education, Carl is currently developing an open source tool for textual annotation that facilitates collaborative forms of online literacy instruction in different languages. His research interests include computer-mediated discourse, cross-cultural and intercultural communication, and online learning. Carl has published on metalinguistic awareness, online language learning, and multilingual/multicultural communities of practice. He earned his doctoral degree from Cornell University.
