John is an innovator focused on improving coordination between the institutions that respond to crises. He works with the World Bank Group's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, where he builds partnerships around the Open Data for Resilience Initiative. John spent the last year writing a field guide to get beyond what open data should do and describe how to make open data practical. The guide just launched at the White House as the World Bank's contribution to the president's new Climate Data Initiative. John is also a research affiliate at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, where he focuses on connecting digital humanitarians with the United Nations and US federal agencies. John started playing the cello the same year he learned to code and has toggled between music and technology ever since. He tweets at @jcrowley.
